Australia Africa Business Council

Roger is a Mauritius-born Sydney-based Barrister. He speaks French and Créole fluently.

He has been the Honorary Representative for the Mauritius Board of Investment for the last four years. He is an official Ambassador for the first ever International Council for Commercial Arbitration Congress to be held in the African Region (ICCA 2016). He is the Immediate Past President, Australia Africa Business Council and its Director of International Relations.

Notes

Prior to being called to the Bar Roger was engaged in numerous functions including: Managing Partner of a Commercial Law firm, first honorary representative of the Mauritius Export Development and Investment Authority in Australia. He was the Founding Vice President of the Australia Africa Business Council in 1983 and its President between 2012 and 2015.
Roger formed part of the Team which negotiated landing rights for Air Mauritius in Australia under the leadership of H.E Jean-Claude Bibi. Roger was also responsible for the legal work involved in establishing the first Air Mauritius office and structure in Australia.

Roger acted as Counsel for the Government and President of the Republic of Vanuatu. He was a member of the Republic of Vanuatu delegation with the ‘Agence de la Francophonie’. During this time, he originated discussions which led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republics of Mauritius and Vanuatu under the leadership of H.E Patrice Curé.

Roger has advised the Governments of the Republics of Mauritius and the Solomon Islands. He has acted as Counsel on projects/cases in Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Rodrigues and Rwanda

Roger remains passionate about Rule of Law issues, especially Australia’s stance vis-à-vis the sovereignty of smaller and/or less fortunate nations. He has been a champion of south-south co-operation and the Small Islands Developing States.
